Borgo San Felice
Relais & Châteaux, Chianti Region, Tuscany, Italy
In a dominant, harmonized position given the magnificent natural surroundings, Borgo San Felice offers its authenticity from the very first glance. The winding road by which to arrive follows the unmistakable lines of Siena’s Chianti Classico hills, a landscape outlined with the subtle sense of antiquity lending the notion that it has existed forever, or at least nearly.

The ancient limestone and red brick village, with historical testimonies from 714, still houses the original church – a place of disputes between the towns of Florence and Siena before the later papacy. It was property of the locals until the eighteenth century when the noble Grisaldi del Taja family, protagonists among the founders of the Consortium of Chianti Classico in the first half of the ‘900’s, took residence in the village manor house and restored it to new splendor. But it wasn’t until the 1980s, when the Allianz Group acquired the entire estate that a long, conservative restoration began. It would take nearly 30 years of work to recover and bring back to life the original medieval structures with minimal intervention, seeking to create a new reality within the ancient spirit of the hamlet, with a unique character and high-profile hospitality ambitions.

Borgo San Felice is a so-called "Albergo Diffuso", the only Relais & Chateaux 5 star luxury property in Chianti Classico since it’s opening in 1991. The widespread hotel and Wine Resort lies central to the estate of 650 hectares in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, 15 km from Siena, and roughly 400 meters above sea level. The spectacular location and microclimate is ideal for the 147 hectares of vineyards that extend throughout the hamlet, along with the 17,000 planted olive trees. Over the years, important international recognition has solidified the enological production of San Felice within the highest levels of the market, thanks to a development model dedicated to excellence and sustainability.
